Exploring English in Room 110

Well, we are moving closer and closer to that first day of school. The open house date for Jefferson is set for August 26th from 6-7 p.m. I am encouraging all ELL parents to stop by the classroom (room 110) to see all the exciting new things that will be happening during the 08-09 school year. I would like to show you the new digital whiteboard that I will be using for my lessons, as well as my blog, wiki, and other technology tools. If you are not familiar with some of these things, I will answer any questions and demonstrate how to use them. This blog will be a great place for you to keep in touch with what we are doing and give you a chance to view some of your child's "WOW" work. I look forward to visiting with you at the open house.

Using Technology in the Classroom

After taking a technology masters class called, “Blogs, Wikis, and other Web 2.0 tools, I really want to incorporate what I’ve learned this summer into my classroom. I know it will take a lot of time and effort, but I feel it really can help children learn in a manner that will definitely affect them in the future. Technology is growing so rapidly, that I need to make sure my students (even though they are K-3) understand the possibilities they have in using these awesome web tools!

Adding Wiki link to my Blog!

I am now adding a link on this blog page to an ELL T.E.A.M. Wiki. This will be the main place where ELL students will have a chance to work together on classroom projects and even contribute to an ongoing classroom journal. My main purpose in creating a separate Wiki is so the ELL students in my classroom will have a chance to read, write, and publish in English together. This will give them many opportunities to work as a team and then share their thoughts and ideas with other people around the world. We hope that you will visit our Wiki page from time to time and see all of the good work the students are doing!

Room 110 Blogging Rules

Here is a list of the blogging rules we will ALWAYS follow in ELL Room 110:

WE WILL:
-Only use our first name when we are writing
-Only use kind, sensible, and appropriate words
-Not share any of our personal details - this would include phone number, address and personal email address
-Be careful when putting photos on our blog and ask permission from others
-Try our hardest to get our spelling right
-Be responsible and respectful of others when using, writing, and learning on our blog.

This will be an ongoing list as the school year progresses.

Welcome to ELL Room 110!

Welcome to Mrs. Olson's English Language Learning blogging page. Look here for daily or weekly happenings in our K-3 ELL classroom, as well as important announcements. This will also be the place where students will do some assignments and their work will be posted for others to see. Eventually, we are hoping to have discussions with other ELL students around the country.

And... as time goes on, I will be adding my favorite ELL links and classroom stories. Feel free to send me any favorites you have already discovered.
